Have you ever joined a “read for read” group on Medium?

You know the ones: “I read yours, you read mine, we comment on each other’s work, everyone wins!”

At that time it sounded tempting, especially for a new writers like me.

More views mean more money, right?

That’s what I thought.

Two years ago, I joined the read-for-read group.

This was after seeing and ignoring the warnings from other writers.

Why would anyone discourage something that could boost your earnings?

In my country, there’s a saying-

What an elder sees sitting down, a child can’t see even if they climb a mountain.

Those experienced writers knew something I didn’t.

But I went ahead with my plan.

By the time I left the read-for-read group, I was ready to never return to Medium again.

I felt hurt and discouraged.
